Dewdman,
It might help to read this:

Very interesting link! It might as well be called "In Defense of Being
a Complete A-Hole"
It might also be called "how to avoid overwhelming people".
No, programmers / hackers are smart folks and they are not customer
service representatives, but many of them could really stand to be
more ... like, uh, "normal" people, you know ... polite?
Well, you know how it is when your inbox is flooded with junk mail? It
takes quite a while to get rid of it - time that would be better spent
doing something productive - and that's just reading the subject line
and hitting delete ...
Now imagine that you get the SAME flood of email, except that a lot of
people have spent a lot of hours writing personally to you because they
think you can help. Celebrities often have a TEAM of FULL TIME
assistants to help them cope. Gurus don't.
Just an idea!
How about another idea? Don't ask busy people to help you - they don't
have time to help everyone so they might as well help nobody.
I don't mean to be rude, but think about it from the point of view of
the person RECEIVING these requests for help. They're not paid to be on
call 24/7.
Cheers,
Wol
