With your updates I was able to bootstrap libtool and successfully run
tests:
Solaris 10 x86 / Automake 1.12.3 / GCC 4.7.1:
120 tests behaved as expected.
12 tests were skipped.
OpenIndiana x86 / Automake 1.12.3 / GCC 4.7.1:
120 tests behaved as expected.
12 tests were skipped.
Running tests on some other systems now ...
