It has recently come to my attention that the latest versions of HP-UX uses two different file suffices on shared libraries on ia64. Traditional PA-RISC libraries use .sl endings, while ELF style ia64 libraries (32 and 64 bits) use .so endings.
Checking the ChangeLog in CVS, <URL:http://savannah.gnu.org/cgi-bin/cvsweb/libtool/ChangeLog>, I find no indication that this is handled properly by the latest version of libtool. Will the newest (or next version of) libtool generate .so libraries when building ELF ia64 libraries on HP-UX?
I am not a maintainer, and I do not want to give any premature answer on your question, but the wording of your question has the feeling of a mail sent to a commercial hotline. In the opensource world the hotline phone (if such would ever exist) would be an answering machine constantly announcing "we take patches..." .... ;-) .... with the implication that the answer to your question might be a big "may be, it just depends whether someone will send a good patch". Since I have no hpux ia64 machine around, it is quite certain that I am not going to create that patch, and that holds probably for a lot of people. So, what about you? :-)=)
