It has recently come to my attention that the latest versions of HP-UX uses two different file suffices on shared libraries on ia64. Traditional PA-RISC libraries use .sl endings, while ELF style ia64 libraries (32 and 64 bits) use .so endings.
Checking the ChangeLog in CVS, <URL:http://savannah.gnu.org/cgi-bin/cvsweb/libtool/ChangeLog>, I find no indication that this is handled properly by the latest version of libtool.
