As mentioned, if you don't use the Standard Filter dialog and it's logical operators, the changes you do via the filter are not cumulative. You may argue that this fundamental behaviour should change, but it would then break the workflow of other users who expect the quick filtering to clear the previous filter. If there was a way to indicate this better in the UI, it would be great, but the only thing I can think of is to have a tooltip that says "selecting a filter replaces any previous filter".
