Only ones I know of that support SSL secured FTP are SurgeFTP
(www.netwinsite.com, Win/Linux/Unix with free command line client available,
no idea of it's capabilities though I suspect it is a standard FTP client),
or CuteFTP (www.cuteftp.com), Windoze GUI only afaik. I did look briefly at
Kermit, but they had some ridiculous download policy so I gave up.

Went for LFTP in the end mainly due to it's incredibly easy to use built-in
scripting capabilities (if you've ever had to write a Unix shell script to
control, catch errors and handle retries in a standard FTP session you'll
know what I'm talking about!), which for our application (unattended
scheduled transfer of files to a client) was a godsend!

Hope that helps,

Dan.

Subject: Commercial LFTP equivalents?

Probably a stupid question but I am forced to ask...

My management has requested that I look into, and compare, any potential
commercial equivalents to lftp. Unfortunately, I am having a hard time
finding any, especially not for UNIX and with lftp's feature set.

Can anybody on this list name any commercial applications that offer the
secure file transfer support that lftp provides (secure ftp and now sftp),
hopefully in a CLI, that I can at least point to in comparison? Unless I can
do that I get the feeling that management and auditors will always feel that
our decision to use lftp was an arbitrary one.

Thanks.
