Below, reproduced from "General Compilation Instructions" of Chapter 5, which

read "Important":

Finally, one last important item must be emphasized:

                Important

Before issuing the build instructions for a package, the
package should be unpacked as user lfs, and a cd into the
created
directory should be performed. The build instructions assume
that the bash shell is in use.</UnQuote>

This is just for building the "tools". In next chapter, there are other
instructions.

Most respectfully, some advice follows.

This book has been tested by many people, users and developers, for many years.
Of course, there might be flaws, but not so many. When we start first time, the
great amount of information is difficult to keep in mind and re-reading is
essential, otherwise the time wasted will be enourmous.
