Works well, but in cpu-intensive processing (e.g. photo manipulation, ogg encoding, openssl -speed) considerably slower than a native system.
From an i686 host, you need to cross-compile. I'm hoping to post some notes on one of my websites in a few days. You also have to decide what sort of system you want (pure64 with only a 64-bit toolchain, lib|lib64 and remember to force lib64 throughout lfs and blfs, lib32|lib and whatever changes are necessary). The toolchain and X maintainers have mostly gone for lib|lib64 so that's probably easiest on the LFS side.
