 FWIW, I've been building systems using eudev since it was first
announced (my notes are in the list archive - people later found out
that my method didn't build the /dev/disk-by-id [ I think ] part -
on a desktop I rebuild eudev for gudev, and that second build fixes
the problem after that [ but too late if you need it at boot time ].

 What was in the book apparently solves the problem [ I haven't
tested that part ].
