The PM would have to account for required and optional dependencies, and 
tell you what each provides and any pitfalls.  Ugh...my thoughts on this 
realignment of xLFS are drifting dangerously close to the complexities 
of Gentoo's ebuild, but with added complexity due to the added 
educational value.
