True. However Perl used to be needed for GCC tests to run (IIRC).  We
DO need to test GCC!

I'd like to see syslog removed to BLFS.  It's only one of a large
selection of possible system loggers, and IMO not even near the best,
it's just the one many distro's use.  I never build it for my
production systems.  (although I should add that it is sweat to just
not build it)

I also don't build sysvinit, but I do agree that LFS needs that (to
boot).  :-)
