Sure, you can run an editor outside of chroot if you have to, but we all like to use LFS tools as soon as they are available. Having Vim available in chapter 6 early on was done for that exact reason.

It's open for discussion of course.

My vote is to keep Vim (and its dependencies) as early in chapter 6 as possible.

I really have no preference, since I never need vim during an LFS build (at least not until after Chap. 6). I will see if we can move up to the beginning, right between sed and zlib.
