People struggle with package management because "packages" are what
distribution vendors provide.

But who needs packages?  Building your own system using lfs or
diy-linux frees you from the chains of package management.  When the
build is complete, the whole thing is one big "package."

And why not?  If some pieces were not required, then why did you build
them in the first place?

If you want more software later, just put it in /usr/local, and forget
about "packages."
