Somehow I feel I'm being trolled, but I'll answer briefly and leave it at that. It is a personal decision, so if you disagree with the reasons I state below, I'll state in advance that we'll just have to A2D. 1) It makes removal of a package easy and complete. 2) I've found many times that packages have overwritten files and I can determine which package did it. 3) It helps me to keep the BLFS book accurate, as BLFS (the same as LFS) annotates installed programs and libraries. 4) There are probably other reasons, but I think the previous ones are in itself enough for me. -- Randy rmlscsi: [GNU ld version 2.15.94.0.2 20041220] [gcc (GCC) 3.4.3] [GNU C Library stable release version 2.3.4] [Linux 2.6.10 i686] 18:14:00 up 169 days, 17:47, 3 users, load average: 1.05, 1.00, 0.65 -- http://linuxfromscratch.org/mailman/listinfo/lfs-dev FAQ: http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/faq/ Unsubscribe: See the above information page
