How would anyone have been making themselves unemployed by winning at
Wembley? They all had contracts, and no-one's was up at the end of last
season. Plenty of players play in play-off finals knowing of the team
wins they may well struggle to maker the step up. Only Leeds fans would
be so paranoid as to think that would make them throw the match.

The financial benefits of promotion are clear and massive, and no-one
could have known at that time whether we would have stayed up as a
result.

On the opposite side, the payments to the old bondholders are vague, and
figures of 5,000,000 were bandied around. A fraction of what promotion
is worth.

The idea that there was a clear and deliberate plan to lose that match
is insane conspiracy theorising with no substance at all and frankly a
bit stupid. IMHO.

As anyone was there on the day can attest, there was no conspiracy
theory, we just failed to turn up. They were better tactically, mentally
and physically prepared, allied with some shocking team selection by
Blackwell. That result was the logical manifestation of our form since
February and was in no way inconsistent with how we had been performing.
The inconsistent and bizarre performance was the cracking effort away at
Preston!

Each to their own though!

Promotion is one of the triggers which cause substantial payments to be
due
to the former bondholders. Promotion one season should have provided
enough
extra income to pay that payment for that season. The problem arises in
that
this payment is only the first in a long series of payments. What is not

known is whether or not these payments are suspended should the club get

relegated once more. It is possible that a promotion followed by a
relegation could leave in place the long series of payments to be made
to
the bondholders which could be disastrous. It may also be that the
promotion
trigger is actually an "embarrassment clause" intended to save face for
the
bondholders should Leeds effectively bounce back up, and that it has a
time
limit on it, after which promotion is no longer a trigger. The devil is
in
the detail of the deal that Krasner did with Bingham McCutcheon.
This presents a situation which is almost unthinkable.

The favourite and more likely possibility is that the Turkeys decided
not to
vote for Christmas. Let's face it -for many of the players at Cardiff
they
would have been making themselves unemployed by winning.

It is a very intriguing thing to ponder but something very strange went
wrong in Cardiff.
If I had not personally watched in massive confusion what took place at
Wembley against Villa then I would not have believed such a thing
possible
at Leeds United.
