Woah! Hold your horses, Roger. The actual point of discussion was not the
merits or otherwise of the entire O'Leary reign; it was discussing the last
time we bought decent players who improved even further under the manager.
I have one or two of your points I'd like to comment on, if I may:

>Mills (limited on arrival) turned in to a decent attacking full back and
was
>one of England's shining lights in the 2002 world cup.

To be honest, I can't remember how good or bad Mills was when he joined us,
but
I would agree with your opinion - up until 2002 WC he was good.

>Dacourt was pants for Everton, yet gave outstanding performances for us
week
>in week out.

Hmmm.... I don't agree with this one on either point! Everton fans I know
thought
Dacourt was brilliant. He was outstanding 50% of the time for us - the
other 50% he was anonymous.

>Anybody who says Bowyer didn't improve under O'Leary clearly wasn't
watching
>Leeds at the time!

I said the exact oppposite, didn't I?

>Ferdinand improved enough for leather chops to give 30M for him; if he
>thought he was that good at West Ham, why didn't he nip in and get him at
>18M instead of letting us buy him?

Ferdinand was prone to errors most matches, and that was the one thing that
was preventing him from being a world class player. IMHO, he only improved
after he joined ManUre

>Viduka was a good player at Celtic, but a hell of sight better for us.

Don't know what he was like at Celtic. For us, he was one match
outstanding, the
next, anonymous and frustrating.

>Bridges (an in and out performer at Scumderland) was quality for us at
both
>home and abroad, until his injury woes absolutely knackered his career;
>defences were shit scared of him during his first season at Elland Road.

Totally agree.

>Add to this (also mentioned by others) the development of Kewell, Smith
and
>Woodgate - a fair record of player improvement I'd say!!!

Hear, hear.
