4 wins in our last 20 games. Indicates a steady direction, but doesn't feel very upwards to me.

I was suggesting better to go up, be in the same position as we are now but in the Prem (and with the extra reevnue that brings), sack Blackwell, bring in better manager (say Curbs) and be able to build from there knowing that if we still went down we would have the financial cushion of 2 years of parachute payments, so would be in a very strong position to bounce straight back. That has to be better then being where we are now, both for the present and the 2 years ahead. Anyway, pointles conjecture as we didn't go up!

>>But if we'd have gone up last season we would be starting 07-08 with 2 season of guaranteed parachute payments. Instead we have no such payments any more. Financially it is an absolute no-brainer where it is better to be (despite what some loony conspiracy theorists have suggested about our play-off final performance).<<
No, it isn't a no-brainer.

We'd have had absolutely no money at all if we'd been promoted - about half the Sky money would have gone on paying ex-players etc. We'd have been unable to attract premiership-quality players given the budgets available.

You're suggesting it would be better to go up for one season, get absolutely pasted, get relegated and try to rebuild again. How does that make any sense? Better to get promoted and be in a position to stay up, surely? Then you don't need to worry about parachute payments...
>>Stability is only of use if you have the right man steering the ship. If the skipper is directing you in a steady straight line towards an iceberg, it's time to change direction.<<

Do you really think that's the case? After seven games of a 46-game season? The steady course over the plast two seasons has been steady improvement. Not spectacular, but smoother than could have been expected, and a few blips along the way are inevitable. What did you expect?
