Im talking about confidence, not motivation. You can be really motivated and want to do something, but you can still be let down by a lack of confidence.
Mourinho doesn't necessarily instil confidence in his players, his players know that if they fuck up or don't perform then they will be dropped. He has the squad and spending power to do just that. Lesser clubs than ourselves (ie most in this division) also don't have that problem because they don't have the weight of expectation on their shoulders that we have.
