I was the one who said they didn't listen OR couldn't do what they were being told for whatever reason. I also said that I didn't think it was the not listening/lack of respect for the manager.
It would be interesting to hear if ANYONE on the list, who has played competitive football at any kind of level, has never gone onto the pitch with clear team instructions and then, for whatever reason, not been able to do that despite their best efforts? A football match is chaos theory in action. Its very rare that you can plan a match on paper and it actually work out almost exactly as you planned. Before anyone harps on about it doing so for Boothroyd.. yes Im sure he planned for Leeds to have 2 goalbound attempts flukily deflected wide, and for their own second goal to be so lucky. Their basic gameplan was to lump it forward into the corners or over the top for King to chase. Leeds actually countered that very well by sitting deep. On tactics alone that's probably a draw for the managers. With the tactics that's ALL Watford seemed to have. KB clearly wanted part 2 of his plan to be for us to keep a bit of possession(is anyone actually arguing that he didn't). For whatever reason, for large parts of the game, the players on the pitch didn't. Panic? Desire to win overwhelming them? Impatience? Technical inability? It really was that simple. Something as trivial as one of those goal attempts spinning in and not wide, or there not being a rugby cup final the day before on the pitch, or if it was a nice hot summers day, would I think have made a big difference to the pattern of play. Watford were always going to be dangerous on the attack, but by the same token they were vulnerable in defence. The way the game unfolded, contrary to the intended tactics of the Leeds Utd management team (yes, there are more than one people involved here), we didn't test their defence enough. In my humble opinion, had we scored first we would have walked it. With the same players, same formation, same manager, same coach and same motivation. > -----Original Message----- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:leedslist- > [EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: 23 May 2006 09:13 > To: [email protected] > Subject: Re: [LU] Questions > > >We were told that their experience was needed in the play-offs.
