Those USB to serial devices are absolutely dreadful

Balckbox.co.uk have a very nice little PCMCIA to dual serial port card that
I have used for many years now without any problems

It works on all types of serial devices and gives you full serial ports on
your laptop.

The serial to USB units tend only to work on some serial devices

Broke my heart for quite a while before I bought the blackbox unit

Larry,

I have to admint I was using one of those awful USB to Serial
convertors on my laptop - so it's entirely possible I've connected
someplace I didn't expect to. I'll dig out an old laptop with windows
95 (shudder) and a serial port and try again.
