Yes, your device (fax server) would work fine. I do this all the time with various equipment that needs to dial out. Enable XDP, punch down to the first pair of the port and connect to a jack for the analog device. As you say, make it dial '9' (pause not needed) and away you go.
As for putting devices ahead of the TD, it will cause problems. The TD would not know the line is in use and a user could select it and come right in on the call. There is almost no reason to put anything ahead of the TD. Possible exception is an alarm or similar device connected via RJ-31X jack with pass through, so the device will actually capture the line when in use. The TD would then see an open line. Not a good thing to do as a regular practice, that is something that will be taking the line regularly. Michael Jim McAtee told me on 4/19/2005 20:02: > Great.
