https://www.aviationsafetymagazine.com/features/vne-revisited/ ...and after reading on the landing page of krnet.org the following: "Jim Hill's KR2 doing 200mph flyby at Hazel Green airport..." caption under a pic of winter flora (cool air assumed) and the plane about 20' AGL and well under 1000' MSL, and; another caption that reads "This is Troy Petteway's O-200 powered KR2. It will do 230 mph flat out". So, my question is how are you guys defining Vne? IAS or TAS? How did the 200 mph number come about for Vne? Is that conservative? With the Freebird plans recommending a tapered airfoil from AS5048 to AS5045 (I assume) and reading that it will increase the spar strength by roughly 17%, is the Vne of 200 mph going to be revised up? Will there be modifications to the tail section and control surfaces to handle a higher Vne (relative to the original KR2 specs)?
