The "datum" is simply a location from which you take measurements. You
can make it anything your want that is convenient. I'd suggest you pick
a spot forward of the wing lead edge (location easily measured with a
plum bob) that is out front of anything on the airplane by some small
amount. That value, added to the book specified CG location aft of the
wing lead edge, is the CG location / range for your airplane. Your KR
might be the only KR to ever use that number but it determines the
correct location for the CG as specified in the plans.
