John Shaffer has a slick retract setup.  Maybe he can share some photos.

Also, the builder that hosted the Gathering in Perry, Oklahoma back in 99 or there bouts had retracts ( I apologist for forgetting his name) .  I think that KR may have been reduced to firewood and I can't find any photos.

My "GUESS" is that retracts mounted anywhere on the center section spar would be supported but that would be something an engineer should determine or someone building and test flying a setup.

The question you need to ask yourself is " do I want to go through the hassle of designing / building a retract system that will gain me "maybe" 36 minutes on a 1000 mile flight or go with fixed gear, more reliable and probably lighter"?

1000 miles /155 mph = 6.45 hours

1000 miles / 170 mph = 5.88 hours

Just 36 minutes difference, less than 20 minutes on a 500 mile flight.

This is assuming that you even get 15 mph gain over a well fared fixed gear.  Fast aircraft like RVs, Cirrus, well engineered designs, apparently couldn't see the benefit.

It's your time and it's your money.  Do what makes you happy................
