Larry, You beat me by one year and 7 days. I soloed 16 Feb1965 at Fort Rucker Alabama in a Piper Tri-Pacer. I beat you on time though. I had 8 hours. John Melvin In a message dated 2/9/2021 06:45:07 Mountain Standard Time, krnet@list.krnet.org writes:
I noted over coffee this morning that today, February 9th, is the 57th anniversary of the day I soloed in a USAF flying club Piper Colt in Castroville, Texas. Cost for the airplane was $6 per hour wet and the instructor was $4 an hour. I show 9 hours of instruction prior to solo. I find it hard to believe I was flying out of an Air Force base, Kelly AFB, after 9 hours in my log. The things we do and live to tell about. I'm guessing my grand kids would say "come on grandpa, what really happened". I wish it were warm enough to celebrate with a flight in the KR instead of hearing "winter storm warnings" on the radio. Keep building , happy flying, and try to surpass my 57 years................
