Robert Muse, Sr., and elder gentleman, flew his stock KR2, with retracts, to several KR Gatherings back in the 90's without any problems.  Appreciate the shortcomings of the design, modify to eliminate them, or fly them accordingly.  There is much enjoyment to be had in the original design.  Just don't expect more from the design then they are capable of achieving.  Failures of the original design has more to do with the pilot than the aircraft, as Mr. Muse demonstrated.
