I don't mean to be contrary here, but what was significant about the Taylor Monoplane to our industry? Yes, RR basically copied the design, but proved that foam and fiberglass construction could be used in full scale aircraft.

The Taylor Monoplane was conventional wood spars, plywood leading edge, and fabric covering. From a Kitplane article: "The Monoplane has conventional wood construction with semi-monocoque thin birch plywood skinning to a fuselage that is basically a simple wood box with a flat bottom, a curved top and tapering sides. The wings are similarly normal with twin built-up, laminated plank spars, ply D-section leading-edges and fabric covering. The tail feathers are all ply covered with fabric-covered control surfaces." Having said that, the KR1 definitely drew heavily from the Taylor Monoplane in most other respects, including the open cockpit of the prototype....
