For those still considering which way to go with ADS-B, UAvionix still
sells the EchoUAT ADS-B in and out, bundled with the SKYFYX-EXT WAAS
GPS, which mounts inside the plane (perfect for our composite planes)
and is a fairly reasonable $1399, and works great. This gives you
everything you'd need, compliance with the rules and inflight weather
and traffic (although you'll need a smart phone, tablet, or some other
GPS screen to display it all). I mounted one of these in N891JF, where
there is very limited interior space remaining for any more of this kind
of thing, and it works fine after a little tweaking. The wing tip or
tail "all-in-one" unit is great if things are too packed in the
fuselage, but the internal EchoUAT worked fine in my plane, despite my
concerns of interference from transponder and other antennas.
I'm not sure if this setup is immediately available from UAvionics,
and AS&S has them back-ordered, expecting more in on Tuesday. See link
