>From my limited experience on an Avid Mk4 with Jabiru 85hp, prop made a huge difference. I went from a short prop 56x44 IIRC to a long Tenn 64x36 or 38. The first Tenn prop was all wrong, sorry I cant recall how, but the second one nailed it with dramatically improved climb rate (1100 fpm at 1150lb gross, with speed wings), and only a slight loss of cruise. Cruise speed was about 100mph.
It taught me that propping an engine/plane combo is a real hard and trial and error. Years ago I read many flight reports in the KR newsletters from the 1970's onward (all on line if you want to look) and you just have to keep trying. And, carefully as some props really fail to perform and climbout can be a struggle. _______________________________________________ Search the KRnet Archives at https://www.mail-archive.com/krnet@list.krnet.org/.
