I would agree with FAA... portable defeats the purpose really.  Just think
about how spoofing aircraft IDs could be used for nefarious purposes! Oh no
one would do that!  Right? If ads-b is going to become our digital id in
the air,  then all equipment should have the id indelibly burned into the
equipment by the factory, and only after positive id is proven.   I see big
security issues on the horizon.

I'm an IT guy and we fight the effects of spoofing all the time,  mostly
because the industry set the precedent of allowing spoofing. The phone
industry followed suit and that's why we have untracable robo calls, spam
email....all because the industry foolishly allows the end user to fill in
whatever they want,  without any verification mechanism.
