Joe Nunley said, "If I were to do it again, I would make my fuel tank out of welded aluminum. 22 gallon header tank."
Absolutely. My header is a 17.3 gallon tank but then my KR-1½ is narrower than the KR-2 fuselage. When I got the plane from Bennett there was a tiny pinhole leak in the bottom of the custom aluminum tank Ken Cottle had put in. I used a dab of JB Weld on it and there's been no more troubles. Ken first flew this plane in April, 1987 so it's had plenty of time to develop problems if any were going to occur. Ken built a lip on eiach side of the tank that lets it rest on the top longeron so taking it out and putting it in has been very simple . . . and very handy. With all the trouble it is to make composite tanks (keep in mind I'm not a builder) it can't possibly be that much more trouble to build a tank that you'll never have to worry about. Can it?
