Noel, It’d be a shame if that boat really isn’t up to snuff. I might have someone else take a look at it before you write it off, because that’s a big step backwards. Your KR is right about where mine was when I purchased it, and I think a lot of builders run out of steam at about that spot.
You probably don’t want to hear this, but you can find a *ton* of information (and see what parts others have saved or tossed!) by checking out all the project pages at krnet.org. If you want to, you can check out my blog, http://kr2pilot.blogspot.com/, and see what I did from about where you’re starting. Bottom line, however, is that there isn’t a “right way” to build a KR; it’s all about what you want it to be when it’s finished, and how much time and money you want to spend on it. I began with all sorts of ideas about how I’d want to improve the plane, and a few years (and lots of progress) later my mindset has become “Just finish the thing!” Personally, I’d look into replacing the retractable landing gear; that being said, there are plenty of KRs out there flying just fine with the gear you’ve got. The advice I wish I’d gotten originally was, work on the big stuff; the wings, the empennage, the canopy and turtle deck; worry about sticks and hardware and controls and other replaceable after the plane’s mostly built. I wasted a lot of time thinking and trying stuff that I could’ve just as easily changed after the plane was flying.
