Netters,

After two short ground runs yesterday to check for oil leaks I fired up and made the first flight after overhaul. After an hour at altitude over the airport I landed , only to find oil all over the belly with oil dripping off the tailwheel spring. A major leak? I guess so. I had lost 4 of the 6 quarts I started the flight with. What a mess. I suspected the quick drain after having trouble with it in the past. I cleaned up the mess and tie-wrapped several small patches of cloth over the quick drain and went for a 10 minute flight after supper this evening. No luck. Still leaks. With much less oil to troubleshoot I now suspect a loose nut on the right rear pushrod flange. I had to remove it after forgetting to install the bottom cooling tin and must not have gotten it tight enough. I was able to turn it 1/2 to 3/4 turn tighter. I can't believe that would have leaked that much oil but I'll keep tracking it down with successive flights. The front main seal, case halves, and accessory case all seem to be just fine. When I get the leak fixed I'll be off and running.

My oil temp and pressure were both dead on, even after losing 4 quarts of oil. Amazing. No other concerns.

I'll keep you posted.
