I have decided to ground the Black Bird again, due to the poor braking. Stopping is possible, but using brakes to turn is not, and this is what has made the decision for me. I don't know if it is the weight of the plane, or the way I have the Tracy O'Brian brakes installed. I did not have this problem with the old Rosenhans, so sold them to someone who got a great deal. I realized later that the problem I was having with those was due to the 8 ply tires being way too stiff to allow me to get the tubes in them properly, Or, At least, that is what I think the problem was. I was asking Matco what brakes to get and he asked me what I was replacing, so I sent him a picture. He said I should hang on to them, but it was too late.
Anyway. I understand from at least one of our flyers, that the Matco are a far better deal than the Clevelands and are just as good, if not better. I only have one question about them, which I am sure some of you who are using them can answer for me. How do you attach something to the end of the axle, that can be used for the attach point for the wheel pant? The Clevelands and the old Goodyear that I had, ( should have kept those ), have a nice axle bolt made so it extends out and has a threaded hole in the end for the attachment of the wheel pant. I want to get something on order early in the week, so I can still take advantage of the great flying weather we are having down south.
