Dan, I was thinking of a gap seal for the aileron. For my latest project I made a test set of Hor. Stab and elevator, using a piano hinges on the top surface...which is a flat plane. I did the tapering, 1 7/8 to 5/8 on the underside. The elevator spar is beveled to allow 25 degrees down play. I do not anticipate any loss of performance with this save for the less than desireable gap on the bottom surface, much like the aileron gap. This is what I want to minimize.
