While I am working on two KR projects with original registered plans, I would like to make the following observation.
With all the modifications that have been made over the years by all the builders (finished and in process)... is the KR series as currently built and flown really still the same aircraft? The fuselage is generically similar to other aircraft, many use the AS50XX series airfoils, different landing gear, different engine; whatever. The combination wood / composite build seems to be somewhat unique, but that is a building technique, not necessarily an aircraft design issue. I'd definitely agree with giving Ken Rand the credit for the type, but are the aircraft currently flying true to the original design? The idea of being able to fly something for about $8 - 10K out of pocket (with a LOT of hours too) is appealing, but maybe the members of the KRNet could follow the 'open source' model and just keep the site open to all the ideas that are already there and not worry about the "original" KR series plans. It seems the best way to continue the legacy. -- >Glenn Martin >KR2 N1333A
