Dan, I do this kind of thing almost every day. What I do for wheels like this is put just enough air in the tube to inflate it without pushing the tyre out, so the inside of the tube is pretty well flush with or just inside the bead of the tyre. I use plenty of lube (We use a special tyre & tube lubricating compound, but soap flakes dissolved in water to a creamy consistency will do fine) on the rim halves and I put the two halves together. The tube should slide over the lube without pinching. once the halves are together, I fully inflate the tyre, deflate it fully, then re inflate it up to pressure. This seats the tube correctly inside the case. Hope this helps. Pete. Australia.
