I'm wondering what there was about the landing / impact that caused
the fuselage to break apart at the rear spar. From the several KR
crashes that I have been unfortunate enough to inspect post
crash, it appears that when the nose strikes first the weak area is
very near the forward spar. In several of the more severe impacts,
the entire cockpit area was fractured, separated, splinted, and just
generally destroyed. That may have absorbed a lot of the energy so I
can't say if that's good or bad. Of the three I've personally
inspected in the last two years there was just one fatality. That
one went into the woods at a very steep angle of maybe up to 45
degrees. Only a miracle would have saved the pilot in that one. I
don't want to see any more so let's fly safely, o.k.?
