If you are going to go through all that... better a Glassair III RG or FG with Wankel (Mazda) or Lancair Legacy with IO550... proven performers by any definition. You can pick up projects that are 40 - 70% complete of the Glassair or Lancair for what Solly says you'll spend on a KR now. I bought an "abandoned" KR2 project and my "ready to fly" (minimal VFR) budget is about 10 - 13K (have spent less than 2K so far with 25% completed airframe, corvair with the right numbers, some steam gauges, plans, etc.).
