I used it on the wood portion of the fuselage when I found that Tony 
Bingelis recommended it in one of his books.  That's not to say it is 
the right way to go or even the best way.  Just another option.  In 
my OPINION, it provides a light weight seal coat for the wood that is 
not going to crack over time and is easy to finish.  It also adds a 
small amount of strength in the finish coat (not really needed) and 
not just the additional weight of filler or whatever to smooth the 
wood for painting.
