I agree in my case it is only for backup in IFR conditions. But if it was tapped into the main induction runner the mixture would be adjusted with it in place, and would compensate for the extra air. There might be a problem at wide open throttle reducing the intake vacuum and not providing sufficient vacuum for the instruments..
