Mark, I flew today. Temp was about 28 F. on the ground, 14 F. at 4500 ft. (I'm more concerned about the pilot than the airplane. I only have solar heat in my plane.)
The service ceiling on a Lancair IV/IVP is near 30,000 feet. It gets pretty cold up there and they're all plastic.
