I am also wanting wing attachment fittings, I would think it would be pretty easy to make thses at home, send a cad file to the CNC water jet guy and have them cut out, I am told they can do them here to +/- 2 thou, will the bolt holes need reaming? and what s the best way to do this, fit them in a jig and do them all in one or do them individually????? Any advice greatly appreciated, and yes, again, I have not checked the archives. -------------------------------
I waterjet cut mine... I would recommend that you make the bolt holes undersize (say .370"), then ream. The waterjet leave little "tits" in the hole due to lead-in/out when it cuts out the holes (depending on how the machine is set up..) Not a big deal, but it makes for a cleaner job, and gets rid of a possible stress riser. The small holes (for the AN3 bolts) I just cut to .201 dia and then just ran a .201 drill through to clean them up. Also, unless the waterjet is 4axis (tilt head) then there will be a slight taper that's especially noticeable in small holes (< 1/2") that points out away from the direction of cut. Something to keep in mind when sizing holes to a finished size if you don't plan on reaming them. On the gear attach, some have made them from AL, but I made mine from .125" 4130. I can weld steel, still learning how to weld AL :-) Matt ------------------------------------------------- Matthew Elder Orangeburg, SC http://www.infinigral.com/melder My Airplane Project: http://www.infinigral.com/melder/flying/KR1/
