There is a very important article on page 66 of the current issue of "Sport Aviation" which all of you should read as soon as possible. The FAA, which doesn't have time or staff to clear up the backlog of medicals, has joined with the Social Security Administration to bring criminal charges against pilots who have a disability and haven't reported it on their FAA medical exam. The authors recommend that, if contacted by an investigator, you refuse to talk to them and contact a lawyer immediately. Might be a good time to get the AOPA legal insurance. Also, I'm sure that if every pilot in the country took the time to write a hand-written letter to his congressman asking why the FAA has the time to do this and still cannot get the medical backlog cleared up, the FAA might get busy doing what they are supposed to be doing.
