I am in the process of painting my house this weekend so last night, I said to my wife.....so, do you mind if I go fly in the morning....well she made the comment..."only if you get home before I wake up"!!! Well, I just walked in the door at 7:28am and she and the three kids are all still in bed and I have another flight behind me. And I must say it was a beautiful flight. I woke up at 4:45am and was in the car 15 minutes later headed to the airport which is 25 miles away. When I arrived at the airport 30 minutes later, I was the only one there and it was still good and dark. I pulled the KR out of the hanger, preflight her, and taxied out. I did my run up and away I went. All the street lights and city lights were still shining bright and the air was as smooth as glass. I turned toward Lake Michigan and I could see the red glow of the sun below the horizon looking across Lake Michigan. The horizon then began turning fire red as the sun rose over the waters. What a sight to see the sun rise over Lake Michigan from 4000' and see the reflections in the water. Well I looked at the Hobbs and seen I had been up for about 20 minutes so I turned back to the airport. All the runway lights were still shining bright as I began my approach. Touchdown was as smooth as glass and I had the KR back in the hanger in no time. Total Hobbs time this morning was .6 hours. I cleaned the bugs from the prop and leading edges and headed home. Heck, everyone here is still asleep and I am going to have a cup of coffee and start painting on the house again. It just does not get any better than this.
