Yes, one of the really bad components of Auto Fuel can be alcohol.  
I asked Ellison why they did not make their carb to hold up to Auto Fuel and 
they told me that it was because they could not know what was in the auto fuel 
and therefore could not test for it.
In many states, there is a law that says that the fuel company does not have to 
tell you what is in the fuel.  Here in SC, I have asked and the attendants at 
the gas station have no idea and it is not posted on the pumps.  If they would 
just tell you what is in it, you could avoid these things.

Too bad that the aviation industry has not caught up with the times and made a 
regulated fuel that can be used in modern engines.
