I will have to make one or several inspection hatches on my tail section, for the following reasons: 1 - I need to replace the elevator cables; 2 - I need to remove the tail wheel spring; 3 - I need to be able to inspect the rudder and elevator hinges nuts.
The more I think of it, the more I end up thinking that one large hole each side will serve my purpose better than three or four tiny ones. If I make these holes under the horizontal stabilizer, I will probably be able to do everything except replacing the top elevator cable. Has anybody been there, done that already? How big can I make that hole? Where should I drill the hole? I was thinking of maybe 120mm (4.75") opening, right in the middle of the compartment. Any idea for the top elevator cable?
