Everyone that I've talked to that converted from the original Rand
retracts to a "well fared" fixed gear claims to have picked up
2 to 3 miles per hour with the fixed gear. The original Rand retracts
are not very streamlined and is/was the major source of problems
with the KR's ranking right up there with engine problems. That's
the reason you hear of the changes to the locking setup that
many builders have made. A hard landing will also punch holes
in the top of the wing with the retracts and most KR's today are
being built much heavier than the retracts were designed for.

Down and locked for me. Need I say more?
