Using some common performance #'s for the KR2 this is what i came up with. With an 1835 VW you can expect 110mph burning 3.5GPH which equals to 31MPG
With a O-164 corvair (100hp) you could expect about 170mph burning 5.6 giving 30MPG. Is it worth 150FPM? What if you run into some unexpected downdrafts and cant get out because you dont have the power to? Even flying a C-150 which gives me solo 750FPM, has a heck of a time climbing to 9000', get a downdraft and it quits climbing (ask me how I know).
