Try a Chevy sprint or Geo alt for the 3 cycl. engine. it is 50 amp and just
about as small as the get on a car.
I use a Kabouta dynamo, with a Harly Davidson reg. on a volkspower case and
driven by a modified gland nut/pully.
I use a Rotax starter now, but when it fries I'll go with a subarue starter
and adapt. plate. My batt. is a Dry cell for jet skis .
I have a strobe, Radio, DG,fuel ,hobbs ,fuel boost pump and primary ignition
driven off this set up and I still have about 6 amps to spare.
Do the math on your amp load ,you may not need all that power.
I have used this set up on two aircraft with no problems.

alternators, beyond some suggestions of what might be used. I am looking
for information about supplementing and or replacing the Diehl alternator
due to the electrical requirements that I have for full electrics,
especially for night flying. I do not believe the 20 amp output is going to
keep up and want to go with an automotive type alternator that can deliver
more along the lines of 45 - 60 amp output. Any suggestions by any who are
using them, actual applications. I have the common Type I VW with Diehl
case, and pretty stock cowling.
